Question:
 If  3 a  -  2  =  10  , what is the value of  6 a  -  2  ?

 First solve the given equation for  a  . You have  3 a  -  2  =  10  , and
  adding 2 to both sides gives you  3 a  =  12  , so  a  =  4  . Now
substitute the value for  a  into the expression  6 a  -  2  . This yields:

6 ( 4 )  -  2  =  24  -  2
 =  22
