Middle English jubile, from Old French, from Late Latin ibilaeus, the Jewish year of jubilee, alteration (influenced by ibilre, to raise a shout of joy), of Greek iblaios from iblos, from Hebrew yôbl, ram, ram's horn, jubilee; see ybl in Semitic roots
