Aryabhata
 (är´´ysymbolbhŭt´symbol) , c.476—550, Hindu mathematician and astronomer. He is one of the first known to have used algebra; his writings include rules of arithmetic and of plane and spherical trigonometry, and solutions of quadratic equations.
