Hamilcar

(hăm´ĭlkär, h

mĭl´—) , fl. 480 , Carthaginian general. Little is known of him, although he was a member of the powerful Barca family. He commanded an army against Gelon and the Greeks in Sicily, who severely defeated him (480 ) at Himera. Hamilcar was killed in the battle.
