Paulus
(Julius Paulus)  (pôl´symbols) , fl. c.200, Roman jurist. He was extremely prolific and is thought to have written some 300 books. His surviving work displays keen analysis of the opinions of other jurists and trenchant expression of his own views. Paulus was held in great respect; almost one sixth of the Digest of the Corpus Juris Civilis consists of his work, and he was one of the five jurists whose opinions were made authoritative in 426 by a constitution of Theodosius II and Valentinian (see Papinian).
