A professor at the London School of Economics (192961), he wrote the well-known methodological treatise, An Essay in the Nature and Significance of Economic Science (1932). A supporter of the free market system and an opponent of Keynes, his work was influential in the advancement of economics as a philosophy and science. As chairman of the Committee on Higher Education (196164), Robbins was instrumental in bringing about significant reforms in the British university system.
