In the expanding and developing southern California area, Thousand Oaks is one of the fastest-growing U.S. cities, marked by a population increase of more than 35% between 1980 and 1990. Once known generally as the Conejo Valley, it became a stagecoach stop in 1874. California Lutheran College is there. Nearby is Oxnard Air Force Base.
