Quote:
All I know is I’m not a Marxist.

Author: Marx, Karl

Category: Marxism

Attribution: Karl Marx (1818–1883), German political theorist, social philosopher. Engels in letter Aug. 5, 1890, to Conrad Schmidt. Quoted in Correspondence, Marx and Engels (1934).

Engels had earlier quoted the same remark in French in a letter Nov. 2-3, 1882, to Eduard Bernstein “Ce qu’il y a de certain, c’est que moi je ne suis pas Marxiste” recalling Marx’s words to his son-in-law, French socialist Paul Lafargue, when he rejected the French “Marxists” of the late 1870s.
